That&rsquo;s usually the easiest way to use up bananas that are about to spoil. This time we wanted a big breakfast with all of the fixings, and I must admit, these are the best banana pancakes I have ever tasted. The buttermilk really does take them to a whole new level.&nbsp; Try these in our blueberry version too, or mix in BOTH banana and blueberries into the pancakes <a href=\"https:\/\/thegirlinspired.com\/blueberry-buttermilk-pancakes\/\">Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another great use of ripe bananas is my&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thegirlinspired.com\/best-ever-banana-cake-with-cream-cheese-frosting\/\">banana cake with cream cheese frosting<\/a>. The flavor combo is out of this world, and the added spices are excellent. It adds more moisture than when using regular milk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>mashed bananas<\/strong>&nbsp;&ndash; avoid totally brown bananas. You want them to be fully yellow or yellow with light brown spots.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>For a full list of ingredients and their measurements, <\/em>&#128203;<em> please view my printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Optional Garnish:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Top buttermilk banana pancakes with maple syrup, a few fresh slices of bananas, <a href=\"https:\/\/thegirlinspired.com\/brown-sugar-caramel-sauce\/\">brown sugar caramel sauce<\/a>, or caramelized banana slices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"substitutes-block\">   \n        <div class=\"wrap\">\n            \n\t\t\t<h2 id=\"substitutions-and-variations\"   class=\"substitute-title\">Substitutions and Variations<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Chocolate chips<\/strong>&nbsp;&ndash; goes great with the combination of bananas. Fold them in gently just before adding the batter to the pan. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Caramelized bananas<\/strong>&nbsp;&ndash; add a teaspoon of butter, 2.5 tablespoons of maple syrup, and 1.5 teaspoons of brown sugar to a frying pan over medium-high heat<strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong>Cook until the sugar dissolves and the sauce has thickened and is bubbling. Stir in 1 sliced banana. Cook until golden brown, then serve on top of each pancake.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Whole milk<\/strong>&nbsp;&ndash; if desired, use in place of the buttermilk.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Homemade buttermilk<\/strong>&nbsp;&ndash; mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice with 1 cup of whole milk. We have not tested this recipe with almond milk.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use slightly overripe bananas or ones that are fully ripe. They should be yellow with very light brown spots, or fully yellow. These will mash easier and add more flavor and sweetness.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Usually the non-stick pan gets gradually hotter during the cooking process. I like to start with moderate heat, then turn the burner to medium-low heat after the first batch.
